My paternal grand-mother was an amazing baker. In the summer, my cousins, sister and I used to spend a lot of time at my grand-parents house in the Laurentiens in Quebec. We used to have a blast! We used to go blueberry picking, strawberry picking, raspberry picking and my grand-mother would make pies. She would freeze them so she had a wonderful supply when we came to celebrate holidays through the year (she had 3 large freezers full of meals and baked goods she would prepare). We used to help my grand-father in the garden and pick fresh vegetables. We used to swim in the lake and go for long walks.
On New Year's Day, my cousins, sister and I had busy days snowmobiling for hours and hours! We did not mind that it was freezing outside. We used to come inside to warm up, put our wet tuques and mitains on the open wood oven. My grand-mother would give us a snack such as her famous 'potato doughnuts'. She would sprinkle powdered sugar on them.. blissful!!!
Every New Year's Day, my sister and I make these doughnuts and miss our grand-mother. I am pretty sure she would be proud of us!
It sounds strange to say 'potato doughnuts' but the quantity that goes in is very small. These are fluffy and extremely delicious doughnuts.
We used the recipe by Ricardo!
